Cambridge Associates Joins Financial Reporting Council’s UK Stewardship Code as Newest Signatory

Cambridge Associates

LONDON, March 14, 2022 – Global investment firm Cambridge Associates (CA) has become an official signatory of the Financial Reporting Council’s UK Stewardship Code.

The UK Stewardship Code sets high stewardship standards for those investing money on behalf of UK asset owners and those that support them. Stewardship is the responsible allocation, management and oversight of capital to create long-term value for clients and beneficiaries leading to sustainable benefits for the economy, the environment and society. The signatory list, updated on 10 March 2022, includes Cambridge Associates and 73 other new signatories.

“Being responsible stewards of capital sits at the heart of our advice to clients. We consider ourselves to be pioneers of today’s sustainable investing landscape and sit at the cutting edge of ESG integration,” said Christopher Hunter, CEO, CA Limited. “I’m also proud of our firm in that anything that we are telling our clients to do in the name of good stewardship, we are also doing – or in the process of doing – ourselves.”

As a demonstration of the firm’s commitment to sustainability, Cambridge Associates received global carbon neutral accreditation and certification last year to PAS 2060 specifications – the international standard for carbon neutrality. The firm also made a net zero pledge via the Net Zero Investment Consultants Initiative (NZICI), which supports the goal of global net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The Stewardship Report explains the approach of Cambridge Associates Ltd in applying the six principles in the UK Stewardship Code which include:

  • Having a firmwide purpose and culture that promotes effective stewardship
  • Having the resources and initiatives to promote effective stewardship
  • Managing conflicts of interest and putting the interests of clients first
  • Identifying and responding to market-wide and systemic risks to promote well-functioning markets
  • Supporting client integration of ESG within investments and record action taken
  • Review of policies and processes to ensure they are aligned with the principles of the Code

Cambridge Associates believes that environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors are additive to the investment process, and therefore integral to both risk management and long-term return generation. The firm has over 400 clients globally that have sustainable strategies in their portfolios or are actively exploring the implementation of these strategies.
