Simon Hallett recently participated at the COP30 Asset Owners Summit, a landmark event held as part of the official COP agenda. The Summit convened senior leaders from pensions, insurers, development banks, endowments, and investment consultants to address the evolving role of institutional investors in the global climate transition.

Discussions at the Summit highlighted the global nature of climate risk and the fiduciary imperative for institutional investors to act. Participants agreed that countries demonstrating ambitious and consistent climate commitments should be prioritised for investment, and that equity finance plays a critical role in driving innovation and competitiveness. The group also emphasized the importance of integrating physical climate risk into financial decision-making, improving data sharing, and fostering collaboration between public and private sectors to catalyze capital flows at scale.

Key recommendations from the event included establishing country-specific bodies to create enabling conditions for climate solutions, adopting credible transition frameworks aligned with national commitments, and strengthening governance codes to support long-term climate action. The Summit signaled a new phase of engagement between private capital and the global climate agenda, with ongoing working groups and annual forums planned to maintain momentum and deliver tangible outcomes at future COPs.

Simon’s involvement at the Summit reflects Cambridge Associates’ ongoing commitment to advancing sustainable investment and climate action through our Sustainable & Impact Investing (SII) practice, which empowers institutional investors to drive positive environmental and social outcomes.
