Non-Marketable Alt. Assets (Venture Capital/Private Equity) Research Consultants
Non-Marketable Alt. Assets (Venture Capital/Private Equity) Research Consultants gather, analyze, and disseminate information about non-marketable alternative asset classes and investment managers. The role will focus on evaluating investment opportunities. The research consultant is a member of a team responsible for identifying high-quality investment firms and products, monitoring firms that are investing for our clients, and acting as a resource for the firm's investment consultants. Focus areas included venture capital, private equity, non-U.S. private equity, fund-of-funds, and hard assets.
Principal Duties
- Build relationships with and act as primary point of contact for a subset of venture capital investment managers. Arrange and attend meetings, and manage flow of information to alternative assets staff and consultants.
- Actively monitor and evaluate a subset of managers in the asset class on an ongoing basis, attend annual meetings. Prepare written comments on ongoing monitoring and evaluation for use by consultants and clients.
- Conduct due diligence on investment managers, to include in-person meetings, reference checks, organization and strategy evaluation, business terms review, performance evaluation (coordinate with control group). Prepare a written opinion on the manager for use by consultants and clients.
- Participate on a firm-wide Research Committee to set annual research plans and priorities, and to discuss evaluations of investment managers.
- Track and analyze industry trends and disseminate this information to consultants and clients. Attend industry conferences where appropriate and provide written summaries for consultants and clients.
- Author periodic research reports on asset class with other research consultants and associates. Collaborate on collecting and analyzing data for inclusion in these research reports.
- Delegate and coordinate analyses and other work with research associates.
- Participate in marketing presentations when appropriate.
Qualifications and Experience
- A BA/BS required, MBA or CFA strongly preferred
- Two to four years' related investment experience. Familiarity with non-marketable alternative assets preferred
- Demonstrated analytical skills and strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently and under time constraints
- Ability to assign priorities to multiple requests for information, while ensuring integrity, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data
